Montessori Materials

Maria Montessori based her method on the realization that movement and learning were inseparable. The child/ student must engage their entire body and use all of their senses in the process of learning. When one looks at the Montessori materials, you are drawn to explore them with your senses. Montessori materials are designed to follow the students throughout their education. For students of every age, the Montessori environment offers the tools to discover the answers to their own questions. Each learning material teaches one skill or concept at a time.

Built-in “control of error” in many of the Montessori materials allows the child/ student to determine if he/ she have done the exercise/ work correctly. The materials contain multiple levels of challenge and can be used repeatedly at different developmental levels. Montessori materials use real objects and actions to translate abstract ideas into concrete form. Montessori learning materials are ingeniously designed to allow children to work independently. The Montessori materials support responsible interactive learning and discovery.
Because older students have built a solid foundation from their concrete learning, they move gracefully into abstract thinking, which transforms their learning. The Montessori Method is designed to maximize the growth and development at each stage of the child’s life. From the Toddler level through High School, there is a common thread, guiding development through movement and hands-on, interactive learning.
